October 4 is Animal Day! Time to pamper your pet or brush up on your knowledge about animals. I can't even count the number of times I've let out an 'oooh' or 'aaah' after hearing a fun animal fact, so impressed can I be with the wonders of the animal kingdom. That's why I'm sharing ten super cool animal facts with you today. Will you soon be in need of something to talk about? Then these facts may come in handy.

10 cool animal facts

  1. Dalmatians are born without spots! Newborn Dalmatian puppies are uniformly white and only get their first black spots after a week.
  2. Frogs can freeze without dying.
  3. The hummingbird is the only bird species that can fly backwards.
  4. Stallions have more teeth than mares.
  5. Cats do recognize the sounds of their names, but choose not to respond (why doesn't this surprise me?)
  6. Snails have four noses.
  7. Koalas sleep an average of about 22 hours a day.
  8. The Australian Wombat lays square turds.
  9. Axolotls can regrow lost body parts and organs (even parts of the brain).
  10. The skin of a polar bear is black.

Do you know a fun animal fact that is not listed here? Complete the list in the comments. Happy Animal Day!
