Pleasant scents and how does that work?

That one scent can make you very happy, because scents are inextricably linked to our emotions. That's because smell is your most dominant and unique sense. We can describe relatively easily how something feels or looks. When we think of a warm summer day or a green bench, we all pretty much think of the same thing. But a scent experience is very personal.

How does that work?

Your sense of smell is directly connected to the parts of your brain where your emotions and memories are formed. The emotions you feel the moment you smell something for the first time are therefore forever inextricably linked to that scent.

Because the impression a scent leaves is so deep, scents can therefore influence our emotions and experience. So you can also influence how you feel at home or at work with the help of different nice scents. Scent historian Caro Verbeek explains: 'If you have good memories of a certain scent, for example from your youth, reproducing that scent can make you more productive, or give you a more homely feeling.'
