Preserve your memories and plan your New Year's wishes with the Time Capsule

  • 2 min read

Every year we open our own Time Capsule when clearing the Christmas tree. It is an ancient gold-colored paper Christmas bauble with a Christmas scene on it. The ball opens like a box, there must have been chocolates in it once. The Christmas box now contains items collected over time, each of which has its own meaning. A Mexican wedding couple with a baby lucky doll, a porcelain Lucky Neko, handmade felt angel, old Christmas light and a fortune cookie note from a Christmas dinner once long ago.

But most important is our annual letter. We look back on the past year. We name the highlights, the memories and what we are grateful for. And we describe what we wish for the new year. That is almost a kind of prediction and always exciting to read back after a year.

The ball hangs in the tree all Christmas time and it only opens again when all the Christmas decorations are cleared up. So around Epiphany. Then we look back on the old year with a closing glass of mulled wine and we write the new letter. The Time Capsule is again packed in between all the Christmas stuff to be opened again exactly one year later.

It's a nice tradition that gives the closing of the holidays a little more weight.

I made such a Time Capsule letter for you. This allows you to look back on your/your year. You fill in the Time Capsule and keep it with a nice little memento of the past year. The keepsake can be a photo, a fortune cookie note, a sweet card... You name it.

Then keep this in a box or envelope with your Christmas items. Put it away and then a year later see what you did and learned. Super fun 'for later' if you do this year in, year out. And certainly 2020 will be a year to remember...

And? Are you going to get started with this? It is a fun activity for the Christmas holidays to do with the family.
