6 Crazy Things You Can Do During Summer Vacation

The summer holidays are just around the corner and this year it will probably not be as you imagined it. But even if you stay close to home this year, there are plenty of fun and crazy things you can do to make it a great holiday!

Crazy thing 1 - Be surprised

Go to a nice local restaurant and be surprised by what you get on your plate. Ask the chef to prepare something for you without you knowing what it is. You will probably be presented with something that you would normally not order yourself. It's great fun to try out something new this way. You can of course indicate if there is something you really don't like, so the chef can take this into account. And by visiting some nice restaurants close to home, you also support local catering entrepreneurs, so hello karma points!

Of course you can exaggerate...

Crazy thing 2 - Be a tourist in your own city

See your hometown through the eyes of a tourist. Normally you mindlessly walk past all the buildings and sights, but if you consciously look at everything that can be found in your city, you will see that your city has much more to offer than you initially thought! And of course it's fun if, just like you would do on holiday, you take photos of everything and afterwards put together a real holiday album.

Crazy thing 3 - Get out into nature

The time when a walk in the woods or a bike ride across the Veluwe was only something for your grandparents is over. The Netherlands has many beautiful nature reserves where you can discover all kinds of things. From the beautiful Veluwe to the vast Wadden area - where you can rent nice houses such as this one and this one . Make it an adventure and look for the most beautiful flowers, plants and animals. Let's put on those ANWB shoes and go!

Look for butterflies in nature! (see also the Helpful helpers below).

Crazy thing 4 - Have a water balloon fight

Crazy thing 5 - Watch only foreign films for a day

We have been very lucky with the beautiful weather recently. But if the weather is not so nice on a day, there is still plenty to do. For example, have a movie day and imagine yourself in a different place. For example, watch a French film so that you get the feeling that you are on the French Riviera or watch an Italian film while enjoying tasty Italian snacks (Yes, trying all flavors of pizza is totally allowed). At Pathé there are plenty of Arthouse films with beautiful gems such as Intouchables .

How about 'good old' Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain? ❤️

Crazy thing 6 - Camp in your own garden

Why would you have to drive all the way to France to sleep in a tent? Just pitch the tent in your backyard and get the feeling that you are out and about. Holidays la cour! And then of course walk to the sanitary facilities (aka the bathroom) in your slippers in the morning with a toilet roll under your arm. Don't have a garden? Then sleep in a sleeping bag on the balcony. During a sultry summer evening it is wonderful to sleep under the stars.
